The Ipod: A Dissection

Ok. I have recently had to dissassemble my Ipod to fix a small headphone jack problem. I have heard others having this problem, so I am going to tell you how to dissassemble your ipod. This method causes little damage, and with the cap over the USB port, no damage should be noticed.

First: Prepaire the Ipod

Get your tools:
X-Acto Knives
Pliers (don't use these unless you are truly desparate)

You also might want:
A magnifing glass
A small probe
Band-Aids (X-Acto knives + people = me asking my dad to stop bleeding over my Ipod)
Some type of anti-adhesive substance

Take the Ipod, and turn it upside down. Have the USB port looking up at you. Take a sharp X-Acto knife and scrape around the inside of the Ipod.



This will take a while, so put on a nice playlist. Gradually work the knife deeper along the inside. When you start hearing cracking noises (hopefully of the glue breaking), take your knife and put some anti-adhesive on it to help disolve the glue. This stage took me a long, long while. Be patient. It will come. Don't rush this stage, and be carefull not to shove the Knife to deep into the Ipod or your fingers.

Stage 2: When you have loosened the seal enough, carefully grab the usb port with your fingers or another tool and wiggle it up and down. If you have cut enough, it should comeout without excessive force.



If you have done everthing right, your ipod should now look like this.



Take a knife and pry the On-Off switch off. This is prety easy. Make sure the switch is in the off position.



Then, take a pen and push down gentally in the headphone port.



This will push the Ipod's guts down out the bottom just a bit. Grab the edges and pull the rest of the guts completely out of the Ipod.



THERE! Your Ipod is now dissassembled! Assembly is just the reverse of the dissassembly process.
